Family First Home

A Father’s Appeal
Raising a child with special needs is an honour and a lifelong responsibility.
My name is Gary. I am the father of Tyler who has cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. I have been his sole caregiver and together we share a wonderful and loving relationship.
Because Tyler will survive me I am preparing for our changing future. My vision is a home that Tyler can share with caregivers who will relate to him like family, providing love, compassion and stability for the rest of his life.
I am renovating our farmhouse in Erin, Ontario to become Tyler’s new family home. It will be his permanent home and the beginning of a model of family-based living that can help many others who face the same worries I do.

Tyler’s Family First Home
Tyler’s first Family Home is being created to ensure he has stability, love and belonging for the rest of his life. Tyler is 40 years old and lives with cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. His father Gary has been his lifelong caregiver and is now preparing for a time when others will share in that responsibility.
The home is located on the family’s 100-acre farm in Erin, Ontario. The renovated farmhouse will provide space for Tyler to live with a caregiving household who will welcome him as family. The setting is natural and peaceful with Highland cows, a spring-fed pond and wide views of the countryside.
This first home will be Tyler’s permanent residence. It is designed as a family-based alternative to institutional or shift-based care. Caregivers will live with Tyler, support his needs and create a stable home where he and they both belong.
